He is survived by: his siblings, Mark Gates and Rhonda West (David West); his daughters, Stephanie Gates Keating (AJ Keating) and Jennifer Gates Smith (Ryan Smith); his grandchildren, Payton Keating, Easton Keating, Weston Smith, Jack Smith and Tate Smith; his niece Taylor Blumenfeld (Jason Blumenfeld); and his great-niece Maya Blumenfeld.
