He was predeceased by: his parents, Shep Whittington and Eva Whittington; and his siblings, Thelma Parrish, Cleo Temple, Mable Newton, Sarah Whittington, Bill Whittington, George Whittington, Arthur Whittington and Raeford Whittington.

He is survived by: his wife Betty Whittington; his children, Lisa Whittington Stewart (Jimmy), Douglas Whittington (Barrie), Jamie Brown (Michelle), Harold Brown and Jo Ann Cabaniss (Scott); his grandchildren, Trey Stewart (Tracy), Zach Brown (Haley), Justin Brown, Samantha Brown, Casey Cabaniss, Mallie Whittington, David Whittington and Caroline Cabaniss; his great grandchild James Stewart IV; his sister Ethyl Stone; and his nieces and nephews, Danny Whittington, Phil Whittington, Carolyn Weaver, Lina McDonald, Cindy Davis, Beverly Gregory, Tim Whittington and Ronnie Womble.
