He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Frances Ayers, Sr. and Emma Lucille Gooden Ayers; his wife Hazel Ayers; his son Doug Evans; his siblings, DeWitt Ayers, Ruby Campbell, Robert Ayers, Ruth Ayers, Mary Ayers, Lois Ayers and Juanita Ayers; and his grandson Matthew Suttles.
He is survived by: his son Christopher Ayers (Sonya) of Columbus, NC; his stepchildren, Tammy Melton of Forest City, Dean Blanton of Bostic, Dennis Evans (Sharon) of Bostic, Brenda Ramsey (Greg) of Ellenboro and Cathy Bennett (Jack) of Bostic; and his brother Ray Ayers (Catherine) of Rutherfordton. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and thirteen great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 7th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Campfield Memorial Baptist Church (369 Campfield Church Rd, Ellenboro, NC 28040). A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 7th 2026 at 3:00 PM at the same location. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 7th 2026 at 4:00 PM at the Campfield Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery (369 Campfield Church Rd, Ellenboro, NC 28040).
