He was predeceased by : his parents, Ervin Grindstaff and Ruth Price Grindstaff; his daughter Sharon Grindstaff Easler; and his sisters, Barbara Whitehurst and Carolyn Barbee.

He is survived by : his wife Dorothy Smith Grindstaff; his daughters, Tammy Grindstaff McCracken (Rodney) of Forest City and Sonjia Grindstaff Brand (Andy) of Spartanburg, SC; his son-in-law Russ Easler of Spartanburg, SC; his grandchildren, Mark McCracken (Nikki Crawford), Jeff McCracken (Sarah), Lindsay Lehn (Phillip), Brandon Easler, Taylor Easler (Courtney Smith), Alex Brand, Mackenzie Buonopane (Charles, Jr) and Anneliese Brand; and his great grandchildren, Caleb Crain, Ty McCracken, Michael Crawford and Wesley Buonopane. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held on Monday, April 8th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the First Baptist Church (341 E Main St, Forest City, NC 28043). A reception was held on Monday, April 8th 2024 at 2:00 PM at the Family Fellowship Hall.
