He was predeceased by: his parents, Hubert Byrd and Wennonah Byrd; and his siblings, Earl Byrd, Billy Ray Byrd (Geraldine), Larry Byrd, Erdine Dale, Mary Elizabeth Carroll and Betty Jean Mizio.
He is survived by: his wife Shirley Hicks Byrd; his children, David Gerald Byrd of Augusta, Georgia and Paula Lassiter (Lin) of Four Oaks; his grandson Christopher Byrd of Clayton; his great grandchild Malia Byrd; and his sister Almetrice Smith (Percy). He is also survived by loving nieces and nephews.
