Wayne Joseph Spaulding Obituary
Wayne J. Spaulding, 90, a resident of Franklinton, NC died September 9, 2025.
Born in Whitehall, NY, Wayne was the son of the late Dorothy Billings and Almon Spaulding. He spent most of his life in New York State before moving to North Carolina in 2000.
Wayne was a veteran and served 37 years in the New York Army National Guard (NYARNG). He retired in 1989 with the rank of Brigadier General (NYARNG). He began his military career in the enlisted ranks and entered Officers Candidate School (OCS) in 1958. He was commissioned a 2nd Lt in 1959. After completion of OCS, he attended Armor Officer Basic Training (AOB) at Fort Knox in 1960. His assignments included Commander, 1st Bn 210th Armor Bn.
Other significant military assignments include Inspector General, Headquarters Troop Command and Deputy Commander, Troop Command, NYARNG. He completed Command and General Staff College (C&GS) in 1977. His military commendations are numerous and varied, most notably; THE LEGION OF MERIT, THE ARMY COMMENDATION MEDAL, and THE ARMY ACHIEVEMENT MEDAL.
He earned a Bachelor of Science from the State University of New York and a Masters of Business Administration in Aviation Management from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.
He was employed in Glens Falls, NY by Finch, Pruyn & Co., Inc for 28 years and Genpack Corps in Glens Falls for 15 years before his retirement in 1996. Subsequent to his retirement, he worked for Census 2000 from 1998-2000 as a Field Supervisor and was a Check Point Supervisor for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) at Raleigh Durham International Airport from 2000-2003. Most Recently he was a North Carolina certified unarmed security officer trainer for US Security Associates in Raleigh, NC.
In his leisure time, Wayne enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf. He especially enjoyed many years of hunting with his good friend Barry Hall. Together they hunted locally, in Canada for caribou, and in the western states for eld. Wayne spent many enjoyable days fishing the Adirondack Mountain ponds, streams, and the northern section of the Hudson River, always with his good friend Jack Esmond. Wayne and his wife were members of the T-Bird country club where they played in a couple's league for many years. Wayne also played golf at the T-Bird with his many friends in the Genpak employees league.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Marcia of over one half a century and their three sons and daughter; Wayne R. Spaulding of Gig Harbor, WA, Keith Spaulding of Sparks, NV, Darren Spaulding of Centerville, VA, and KellyAnne Spaulding of Franklinton, NC. He has another son, Frank P. Spaulding of Fort Ann, NY from an earlier marriage. There are 8 Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
His ashes will be interned by Military Honor Guard in Saratoga National Cemetery in Saratoga, NY.
