He was predeceased by: his parents, Clemon Nelms and Ella Ruth Nelms; and his brother Larry Clemon Nelms. He is survived by: his wife Gwynne Whitley Nelms; his children, Julian Boyd Nelms, Jr., Ashley Benton Nelms Smith (Joshua Adam Smith) and Lee Whitley Nelms; his grandchildren, Aubrey Claire Smith and Avery Gray Smith; and his siblings, Henry Allen Nelms and Ella Andre Foster. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews.
