It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Douglas Alan Unwin of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina, who passed away on January 5, 2026, at the age of 81, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles D. Unwin and Wanda Ester Unwin; and his brother Robert C. Unwin of Mineral Wells, Texas.. He is survived by: his wife Nancy Jo Ferrell-Unwin of Fuquay-Varina; his stepson Brandon J. Puckett (Jessica) of Beaufort; his stepgrandchildren, Evan Z. Goudey of Maysville and Carlin E. Patterson of Jacksonville, FL; and his brother Craig L. Unwin (Lynn) of Wilmington.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org.) or the Wounded Warrior Project (https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org), two causes close to Doug's heart.
