He is survived by: his children, J. R. Heinzerling (Crystal) of Clayton, NC and Susan Kane (Tim) of Apex, NC; and his grandchildren, Henry, Thomas, Carleigh Heinzerling, Ryan, Jackson and Ethan Kane.
