He was predeceased by: his wife Susan Carey; his son Robert Carey Jr. "Dinky"; and his siblings, Johnny Carey, Ed Carey, Rita Strickland, Elizabeth Johnson and Rose McIvin.
He is survived by: his daughters, Lila Blackburn (Teddy) of Garland, NC and Brenda Finney (Ike) of Ingold, NC. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, & 24 great grandchildren.
