He was predeceased by: his parents, Lloyd Fox and Lydia Staton Fox; his wife Elizabeth Searcy Fox; his son Captain Ernest Wayne Fox; and his siblings, Charles, Staton, Sr., Graham, Lloyd, Katie Lee and Vikki.

He is survived by: his son Joseph Dean Fox (Carol) of Garner, NC; his daughter-in-law Marty Fox; and his grandchildren, Adena Ross, Chris Stancil and Brad Stancil. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family wishes that donations be made to the North Carolina Troopers association. Donors are also welcome to contribute to a charity of their choosing.
