He was predeceased by: his parents, Nathaniel Pierce and Maxine Daye Pierce; his daughter Carolyn Pierce; his great grandchildren, Ciera Webb and Caleb Turner; and his siblings, Ellerine Nesmith, Doris McNair, Elaine West, Alice Fleming, Darryl Pierce, Kevin "Mac" Pierce and Lloyd Randolph Pierce.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Frances Pierce of Rocky Mount, NC; his children, Debbie Washington (Jeremy) of Rocky Mount, NC, Gerwood Pierce (Gwynette) of Durham, NC, Kathy McCray (Johnny) of Durham, NC and JoAnn Cox (Allen) of Gaston, NC; his grandchildren, Francesca Slye, Sheminique Harrison-Vann, Jessica Cox, Lashondia Hockaday, Tiffany Pierce, Citra Hockaday, Stacy Edmonds, Jarred Pierce and Marcus Cox; his brother David Earl Pierce; his siblings-in-law, Noralene Hawkins, Elaine Pierce (Lanie), Virginia Pierce and Ronald Fleming; and his sons-in-law, Sidney Hockaday and Dennis Arrington. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
