He is survived by: his wife Sharon Bridges Abernathy; his children, Bobby Abernathy and Kimberly Smith; his stepchildren, Josh Haney, John Haney and Kristy Kirby; his grandchildren, Dylan Smith and Tori Smith; his stepgrandchildren, Falon Kirby, Raeleigh Kirby and Trip Kirby; his sisters, Phyllis McDaniel and Gladys Harrelson; and also Gary Smith.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 8th 2025 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Cramerton Temple of God (5021 Wilkinson Blvd, Gastonia, NC 28056). A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 9th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
