He was predeceased by: his father C. B. Peterson; his daughter Jennifer Peterson; his nephew Clint Fort; and his stepfather Collis Kirby. He is survived by: his mother Betty Peterson Kirby of Gaffney, SC; his wife Sherry Curtis Peterson; his daughter Leah Peterson Stewart (Joseph) of Gastonia; his sisters, Susan Howard (Mike) of Gaffney, SC and Ann Gordon (Tim) of Blacksburg, SC; his grandchildren, Steven Stone, Thomas Stewart and Makenna Griggs; his siblings-in-law, Kim Eaker (Roger) of Gaffney, SC and John Curtis of Blacksburg, SC; and his siblings' children, Nick Fort (Rachel), Aaron Dillon (Lauren), Travis Gordon (Ashlee), Kirby Velazquez (Hector) and Katie Dover (Mike).

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 10th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia (700 S New Hope Rd, Gastonia, NC 28054). A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 11th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (2710 Redbud Dr, Gastonia, NC 28056).
