He was predeceased by: his mother Barbara A. Gillespie; and his mother-in-law Patricia Dockery. He is survived by: his father Douglas M. Gillespie; his wife Lynn D. Gillespie; his sons, J. D. Gillespie and Josh Gillespie (Lauren Lubejko); his sisters, Teresa Davis and Kim Williams (Jimmy); his siblings-in-law, Kim Hodge (Chuck), Scott Dockery (Lisa) and Matthew Dockery (Leslee); his granddaughters, Lynzee Gillespie and McKynzee Gillespie; and his father-in-law Jerry Dockery (Sarah).
