He was predeceased by: his parents, J. W. Russell and Pauline Smith Russell; his wife Carolyn Raxter Russell; and his daughter Connie Lynn Russell. He is survived by: his siblings, Tom Russell and Carol Russell Keenum; and his siblings' children, Jerry Russell, Robyn Miller, Ronda Freeman, Kim Hughes, Kelly Nichols, Rhonda Phipps, Carla Fortenberry, Tammy Waters and Lisa Hoover.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 2nd 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Gaston Memorial Park (1200 S New Hope Rd, Gastonia, NC 28054).
He was a compassionate supporter of charitable causes, generously donating to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Diabetes Foundation, and the Shriners Hospital for Children.
