He was predeceased by: his parents, Douglas Love and Isabell Jackson Love; and his son-in-law Richard Causby. He is survived by: his wife Jean Boyd Love of Gastonia; his children, Robert D. "Doug" Love, Jr. (Karyn), David Randolph "Randy" Love (Darlene) and Julie Love Causby of Morganton; his grandchildren, Jessica Love Adams, Joseph, Stephen Love, Stephanie, Matt, Jordan Deflon, Col. James, Olivia Blackburn, Caleb, Mary Pardue, Andrew, Heather Tallent and Brian Causby (Brittney Gracen); and his great grandchildren, Spencer, Bryant, Max Adams, Palmer, Everett Love, Hadley, Reese, Caison Blackburn, Addi, Evie, Reed Deflon, Stella, Monroe, Graham Pardue, Oakley, Atley Tallent, Everly and Marshall Gracen. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
