He was predeceased by : his parents, James Preston Cherry, Sr. and Eunice Smith Cherry; and his siblings, Kevin Cherry, Michael Cherry and Mary Catherine Cherry.

He is survived by : his wife Ann Cherry; his children, Steven Timothy Cherry, Jr. (Angie), Jonathan David Cherry (Megan) and Jennifer Waggoner (Chris); his grandchildren, Kaylyn, Keegan Cherry, Jackson, Grace, Anna Cherry, Luke and Elliot Waggoner; his siblings, Gregory Cherry (Tricia), Jimmy Cherry, Chris Cherry (Lynn), Phillip Cherry (Cheryl), Melissa Deaton (Joe), Dorothy Cherry and Amy Lawing (David); and his sister-in-law Myra Cherry. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, April 24th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia Founders Chapel (700 S New Hope Rd, Gastonia, NC 28054). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Thursday, April 25th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the St. Michael Catholic Church (704 St. Michael's Lane, Gastonia, NC 28052).

In lieu of flowers, memorials to honor Steve may be sent to Belmont Abbey College for the benefit of the James and Eunice Cherry Endowment Fund for Nursing School Tuition Assistance.
