He was predeceased by: his parents, William Carter and Mary Carter; his siblings, Bob, Cecil, George, Bill Carter and Martha Clapp; and his grandson Matthew Carter.

He is survived by: his wife Darlene Carter; his children, Laura Clapp (Dennis), Renee Carter (William Cauley) and Shane Carter (Jessica Lewis); his grandchildren, Robbie (Becca), Danielle (Charlie), Dottie, Ashton, Maranda (Paul), Madison, Hunter, Hannah and Hope; his great grandchildren, Peyton, Dean, Presley, Bentlee and Paxton; his sisters, Shirley Brown, Virginia Jeffries (Ginny) and Linda Henson; and his close friends, Kenneth, Wanda Baxter and Charles "DooHoo" Donahue. He is also survived by numerous family members and friends.
