He was predeceased by: his stepson Arnie Smith; and his sisters, Annie Ruth Cotton, Thelma Howell and Nellie Tyndall. He is survived by: his wife Alene Sarvis Cotton; his stepdaughter Elizabeth Sarvis Smith; and his daughter-in-law Crystal Michelle Smith.
