He was predeceased by: his parents, Park Joseph Poppell and Iris Virginia Sadler; and his brother Danny Harbin. He is survived by: his wife Lila Robinson Poppell; his children, Brittnee Tillery (Matt), Josh Long (Kayla), Sandi McCabe (Nick), Cindy Barbee (Rob) and Steven Foy (Maura); and his brothers, Joseph Poppell (Barbara), Dale Harbin and Paul Harbin. He is also survived by grandchildren.
A memorial service was held on Friday, November 14th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery (164 Longs Plant Farm Rd, Goldsboro, NC 27534).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Disabled Veterans Association.
