He was predeceased by: his father John Bryan Hellen, II. He is survived by: his mother Jean Henderson of Ayden; his son J. B. Hellen, IV; and his siblings, Teresa McAteer of Emerald Isle, Susan Hellen of New Bern, Traci Bibbs of New Bern and Chris Hellen of Vanceboro. He is also survived by 15 nieces and nephews, 23 great nieces and nephews, 2 Great-great nieces and nephews, and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 12th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Palmetto Cemetery (US-17, Vanceboro, NC 28586).
