It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Joy Massengill Whitfield (Goldsboro, North Carolina), who passed away on September 16, 2025, at the age of 79, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Everett Massengill and Christine Honeycutt Batten; her stepfather Willie H. Batten; and her brother Kenneth Wayne Massengill. She is survived by: her husband Al Whitfield; her daughter Laura Whitfield Shearer (James); her grandchildren, Walker James Shearer and Olivia Joy Shearer; her siblings-in-law, Rex Whitfield, Doyle, Susan Whitfield, Olivia Pierce, Roy and Eileen Whitfield; and her friends, Laura Ann Waters, Billy, Nancy Reaves and Mary Lena Canupp. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
