He was predeceased by : his wife Janice Hodgdons; his parents, James Edward "Buck" Sessoms and Hilda Una Pullman Sessoms; his brothers, Brian Sessoms and Gregory Sessoms; and his brothers-in-law, Carlton Johnson and Ray Lucas.

He is survived by : his daughter Wanda Johnson of Goldsboro; his siblings, Angela Lucas of Wilson, Jackie Johnson of Virginia, Molly Sessoms (Ricky Bridgers) of Tarboro, Julie Morton (Buddy) of Wilson and Preston Sessoms (Rosa) of Wilson; his grandchildren, Travis Valdez, Matthew Valdez and Madison Valdez; and his great grandchildren, Alexander Valdez, Elijah Valdez and Jeremiah Valdez. He is also survived by 7 nephews and 6 nieces.
