She was predeceased by: her parents, Maximino Yerro and Delores Triste; and her husband Jay H. Polk. She is survived by: her children, Darlene Polk, Jay Jr. (Polk) and Jerry Polk (Cappy); her sisters, Ellie Lee and Patti Pejera; her grandchildren, Justin Williamson, Ian Williamson (Sarah), Alexandria Stegall (Jared) and Jared Polk; her nephews, Steven Lee (Beth), Brian Lee and Reyman Pejera; and her niece Jaziel Pejera.
A graveside service was held on Sunday, October 4th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Eastern Carolina State Veteran Cemetery (164 Longs Plant Farm Rd, Goldsboro, NC 27534). A funeral service was held on Sunday, October 4th 2026 at 3:00 PM at the Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home (2873 US-117, Dudley, NC 28333). Visitation was held on Monday, October 5th 2026 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Alzheimer's Association (Alzheimer's.org).
