She was predeceased by: her parents, Troy Lester and Dorothy Elizabeth Glosson Ferguson; her husband Lawrence Eugene Cates, Sr.; and her sister Jean Salyers. She is survived by: her children, Alisa Cates Lankhamdaeng of Graham and Lawrence Eugene "Gene" Cates, Jr. (Julie) of Graham; her grandchildren, Brandon Lankhamdaeng, Brittany Lankhamdaeng, Zachary Cates, Melody Soderlund (Nolan), Phillip Cates and Jennifer Davis (Bill); her great grandchildren, Maverick Soderlund, Terri Cates, Cameron Edwards, Josslyn Cates, Phillip Cates, Jr., Amelia McCann, Abigail Davis and Billy Davis; and her brother Harry Ferguson (Cheryl Parrish) of Graham.
