He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe Whitman and Dempsy Norris Whitman; his wives, Grace Jackson Whitman and Lenorris Smith Whitman; his son Tony Whitman; and his siblings, Howard, Herman, John Melvin, Woodrow, Mabel Johnson, Pearl Wood, Naomi Johnson, Lunette Byrd and Claudia Cannon.
He is survived by: his children, Roger Whitman (Sue), Ricky Whitman (Paula) and Connie Whitman. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
