He is survived by : his wife Madge Terry Hooks; his children, Cindy Phillips (David) of Connelly Springs, Richard Byrd (Paula Pennell), Dennis Byrd (Summer Evans), Stephanie Hooks (David Craig) and Tony Hooks (Nikki) of Connelly Springs; and his sister Gale Hooks of Spurger, TX. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Friday, May 24th 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Mackie Funeral Service (35 Duke St, Granite Falls, NC 28630). A funeral service was held on Friday, May 24th 2024 at 3:00 PM at the same location.
