He was predeceased by: his father John Edward Essa, Sr.; and his sister Hollyn Koury Essa. He is survived by: his mother Gloria Koury Essa; his wife Jenni Sawyer Essa; his children, Barrett David Essa and Koury Siler Essa; his siblings, Alyson Witt (Jim) and John Edward Essa, Jr. (Gina); his nephews, Bradley Witt, Jacob Earl and Jack Essa; and his brother-in-law Ibraham Odeh (River). He is also survived by his mother, children, wife, entire family, friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in David's memory to the SPCA of the Triad and Pathways Center, a program of Greensboro Urban Ministry.
