He was predeceased by: his wife Earnestine Collins Bates; and his parents, Emory Bates of Vermont and Elsie Jane McGlothin Bates. He is survived by: his sons, Donald Glenn Bates, Jr. (Donnie) of McLeansville, NC and Gerald Lynn Bates of Dillwyn, VA; and his granddaughter Donna Bates Campbell (Tim) of McLeansville, NC.. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
