She was predeceased by: her parents, Charles Rushton Smith and Mary Young Smith; her husband Paul Rowland McGarr; her sister Charlotte Smith Harris; her brother-in-law James Edward Harris; and her grandson Zachary Walker McGarr.

She is survived by: her children, Paul Rushton McGarr (Carin Marie Cutler) of Boulder, CO and Lee-Anne McGarr of Greensboro; her grandchildren, Vaeda McGarr, Smith McGarr, Sarah McGarr, Allie McGarr, Rowland McGarr and Aiden McGarr; her brother Charles Smith Jr.; and her nieces and nephews, Charles Smith III, Dale Smith, Paul Smith, Mary Harris Miller and Charlotte McGarr. She is also survived by two great grandchildren, four great nieces and four great nephews.
