He was predeceased by: his parents, Trice Moody Kent and Mittie Shepherd Kent; his former wife Margia Qualls Kent; his wife Virginia Sink Kent; and his sisters, Bertha Kent Guthrie, Helen Kent Crabtree and Eva Kent Callahan.
He is survived by: his children, Joe W. Kent, Jr. (Karen) of Marietta, GA and Linda Kent Duckworth of Greensboro, NC; his son-in-law A. Brian Duckworth of Greensboro, NC; his grandchildren, Joe W. Kent, III, Michael E. Kent (Lesley) of Woodstock, GA, Margia Kathleen Reynolds (Andrew) and Elizabeth Claire Duckworth of Greensboro, NC; his great grandchildren, Grayson Kent and Michael E. Kent, Jr. of Woodstock, GA.; his close friend Bonnie Bradham; his friend Mary Ann Hogewood; and his caregivers, Brian, Maria, Meredith and Pam.
