She was predeceased by: her parents, William Doyle Lee and Mary Myers Lee; her husband Charles Donald Carpenter; her son John Carpenter; and her brothers, Bill Lee and Jerry Lee.

She is survived by: her daughter Katherine Hovis (Ed) of Greensboro; her daughter-in-law Liz Simpson (Eric) of Bessemer City; her sisters, Peggy Miller and Nancy Farrar; her close friend Cathy Lineberger; her grandchildren, Amanda Grooms (Mitch) of Bessemer City, Alan Carpenter (Lindsay) of Grover, Kyle Hovis (Rebecca) of Raleigh and Richard Hovis (Katherine) of Pfafftown; and her great grandchildren, Tyler Grooms, Kailey Grooms, Iris Carpenter, Jasper Carpenter and Daisy Hovis. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the American Cancer Association or to Hospice of Greensboro.
