He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Allen Southern and Alice Blanche Lowdermilk Southern; his daughters, Joy M. Southern, Hope M. Southern and Heidi K. Southern; his sister Judith "Judy" S. Lingle; his father-in-law Leroy E. "Woodie" Woodard; and his spouse Rea Lou Ann Woodard.
He is survived by: his children, Kenneth "Kenny" C. Southern, Jr. (Dawn Hunt) of Thomasville, Thomas "Tommy" Southern of Pleasant Garden, Tammy S. Nichols of Pleasant Garden, Amy M. Southern of Pleasant Garden and Corey S. Southern of Pleasant Garden; his grandchildren, Cameron K. Southern of McLeansville, Caleb W. Southern (Emily) of Central, Erin N. Schmidt (Jacob) of Summerfield, Mackenzie L. Nichols of Greensboro, Callie G. Nichols of Pleasant Garden, Julia A. Southern of Statesville, Logan C. Southern of Brevard, Josiah T. Southern (Jada) of Statesville and Ivie B. Nichols of Pleasant Garden; and his mother-in-law Inez F. Lemonds of Greensboro. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren.
