It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Robert Riley Sawyer (Greensboro, North Carolina), who passed away on August 17, 2025, at the age of 88, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence Emmett Sawyer and Frances Mae Fulk Sawyer; his brother Thomas Alton Sawyer; and his siblings-in-law, Linda Winfree Sawyer and Phillip Haywood Hardin Sr..
He is survived by: his wife Susan Ballance Sawyer; his children, David (Kathy) of Greenville, NC and Carole Sawyer Lawson (Chris Lawson) of Pilot Mountain, NC; his siblings, Kay Sawyer Hardin of Stokesdale, NC and John Lawrence Sawyer (Carolyn Robbins Sawyer) of Greensboro, NC.; his grandchildren, Mary Kathryn Sawyer Hardy (Nolan), Debbie Sawyer Smith (Adam), Liz Sawyer Tyson (Landrum), David Sawyer Jr., Will Sawyer, Nick Lawson, Josh Lawson and Thomas Lawson; and his great grandchild Emerson Hardy. He is also survived by his extended family, including many uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces, and in-laws.
