He was predeceased by: his parents, Willis Bryant Carter and Lucy Jane Griffin Carter; his sons, Michael Carter and Jeffrey Carter; and his brothers, Donald Carter, Robert Carter and Jimmy Carter.

He is survived by: his wife Nancy Louise Truitt Carter; his children, Lisa Carter, Pamela Smith, Annette Russell, Diane Murray, Mark Carter (Jennifer) and Brian Carter (Paulet); and his siblings, Jane Watkins (Ronald), Steve Carter (Donna), Mike Carter (Maryann), Charles Carter (Kathy) and Tommy Carter (Frances). He is also survived by seven grandchildren and five bonus grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and five bonus great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 15th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Wilkerson Funeral Home (1909 Richardson Dr, Reidsville, NC 27320). A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 16th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location. A burial will be held on Friday, October 16th 2026 at 3:00 PM at the Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery (2531 Flat Rock Rd, Reidsville, NC 27320).
