He was predeceased by: his mother Nina Wright; and his grandmother Gladys Robinson. He is survived by: his children, Bruce Helms of Rincon, GA and Karen McDonald of Zebulon; his grandchildren, Ellen Helms, Meaghan Meanor (Brian) and Charlotte Helms; his great grandchildren, Lydia Meanor and Maverick Meanor; his son-in-law Jim McDonald; his girlfriend Jayne Anderson; and his former wife Anita Helms.
Visitation was held on Saturday, November 29th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM and on Monday, December 1st 2025 at 4:00 PM at the Smith Funeral Service & Crematory (605 Country Club Dr, Greenville, NC 27834). A funeral service was held on Saturday, November 29th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location. A graveside service was held on Monday, December 1st 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Final Resting Place Winterville Cemetery (State Rd 1131 & Reedy Branch Rd, Greenville, NC 28590).
