It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Phyllis Kay Smith of Grifton, North Carolina, born in Kinston, North Carolina, who passed away on May 9, 2026, at the age of 78, leaving to mourn family and friends. Though Phyllis may no longer walk among us, her spirit lives on in the echoes of her kindness, the warmth of her embrace, and the light of her enduring love.

She is survived by: her niece Verna Johnson (Jasper Grimsley); her nephews, Louie Johnson (Jennifer) and Wilson Lee Johnson; her great-nephews, Henry Johnson (Abby), Sidney Johnson and Louie "Hank" Johnson; and her friend Sharon Waters Freeman.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 16th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Sharon United Methodist Church (4061 Sharon Church Rd, Kinston, NC 28501).

She is preceded in death by her parents Wilson and Verna "Dingle" Smith, her sister Linda Johnson, and her brother-in-law Louie Johnson, Sr. Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to Sharon United Methodist Church, c/o Valley Odam Circle, 4106 Sharon Church Road, Kinston, NC 28501.
