He was predeceased by: his parents, R. L. Nelson and Ella Williams Nelson; and his sisters, Janice Nelson and Joanie Nelson Bogan. He is survived by: his wife Phyllis Hullender Nelson; his sons, Michael Nelson (Candice) of West Point, VA and David Nelson; his stepsons, Joshua Hanvy (Crystal) of Lincolnton, NC and Jason Morrow (Chrystal) of Grover, NC; and his brothers, Jamie Nelson of Hot Springs, VA and Anthony Nelson. He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren.
