He is survived by: his wife Irene Purvis of Hassell, NC; his daughters, Kathryn Johnson of Durham, NC and Angie Whitehead (John) of Williamston, NC; his grandchildren, Ginny Whitehead Lilley (Stephen) of Williamston, NC and Michael Whitehead (Emily) of Greenville, NC; his great grandchildren, Kate, Sadie Lilley and Hallie Whitehead; his brother Sam (Vel) of Rocky Mount, NC; his niece Katherine Farley (Peter); and his nephew Hank Johnson (Alyson).
