He was predeceased by: his parents, Lester Ezra and Maggie Long Whitfield; his daughter Laura Lee Whitfield; his significant other Carol; and his siblings, Ethel Whitfield, Doris Coleman, Raymond Whitfield, Lorraine Matkins, Melvin Whitfield, Mae Lowe, Bea Jenkins, Katye Newton, Herbert Whitfield and Frances Barber.
He is survived by: his son Wayne of Phoenix; his grandson Kyle (Lallina); his great grandchildren, Sophyia and Rafael of Phoenix; his sisters, Jean Walker of Roxboro, Sadie Roach of Burlington and Linda Allen (Woody) of Elon; his close friends, Lottie and Joe Natkowski of Phoenix; and the mother of his children Adele Hyizer Whitfield of Phoenix. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project, The National Foundation for the Blind, The Humane Society of the United States, and the American Diabetes Association.
