He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Donald and Marjorie Louise Blair Thorburn; his half-brother Brian James Thorburn; and his stepsiblings, Daniel Alden Bauer and Diana Bauer.
He is survived by: his wife Diann Humphrey Thorburn; his daughter Tammy Thorburn Gibson (Samuel) of Hayesville; his granddaughter Amanda Rae Gibson of Hayesville; his sister Donna Louise Wells (Eric); his half-brother Bruce Edward Thorburn of Altamonte Springs, Florida; and his sister-in-law Phyllis Humphrey of Hiawassee, Georgia..
