He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Lee and Helen Norwood Paynter. He is survived by: his wife Sandra Abbott; his daughter Dr. Sharon Paynter; his son-in-law Robert Weatherly of Greenville; his son Brian; his daughter-in-law Sarah Boisvert Paynter of Henderson; his grandchildren, Kaitlin Helen and Jack Arthur Paynter; his sister Charlotte Paynter Segnere (Patrick); and his nephews, Dr. Jeff Segnere (Eunis Segnere) and Jason Segnere (Jennifer Segnere). He is also survived by many cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Rebuilding Hope, 414 Raleigh Road, Henderson, NC 27536.
