She was predeceased by: her parents, Janie Young Averette Nethery and James Woodrow Nethery, Sr.. She is survived by: her husband John James "Johnny" Riggan; her children, Jona R. Gilliam of Wake Forest and Randy M. Riggan of Townsville; her grandchildren, Sarah M. Riggan, Allison C. Riggan, Olivia M. Gilliam and Sterling G. Gilliam, III; and her siblings, James W. Nethery, Jr. (Kay) of Henderson and Bettie N. Edwards (Bill) of Henderson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Island Creek Baptist Church, 950 Stagecoach Rd, Henderson, NC 27537, in memory of Barbara and her dedication to the children of the church.
