He was predeceased by: his parents, Allen Carpenter and Hazel Marie Wright Carpenter; his former wife Sandra Simpson Carpenter; his brother Ken Carpenter; his nephew Timothy Carpenter; and his sister-in-law Suzanne Carpenter.

He is survived by: his wife Peggy Keith Carpenter; his children, Mark Carpenter, Andrea Carpenter Woodard (Gilbert) and Matthew Carpenter (Cindy); his stepchildren, Keith Hollingsworth (Danielle) and Jan Howard (Wayne); his grandchildren, Austin Woodard, Lucas Carpenter, Zoe Howard, Alex Carpenter, Courtney Duggal, Tanay Duggal, Julianna Garza, Caralina Garza, Pierce Garza, Shaun Garza, Jack Graham and Joel Hollingsworth; his great grandchild Evelyn Cook; and his brothers, Tom Carpenter and Danny Carpenter.
