He was predeceased by: his parents, Oliver Eugene Murray and Betty Ayscue Murray; and his brothers, Erston Murray and Ronnie Murray. He is survived by: his girlfriend Jocelyne Ruehling; his children, Michelle Lynn Ruehling and David Peter Ruehling; his grandchildren, Emily Ruehling, Taylor Clark and Walter Ruehling; his sister Karen Murray Parham (David); his niece Amber Williamson (David); his nephew Matthew Murray; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Abagail Williamson, Alyssa Williamson, Aiden Williamson, Hunter Williamson and David Williamson Jr..
