He is predeceased by his parents Eugene Francis Smith and Bessie Willey Smith;He is survived by his wife Margaret White Smith; his siblings, Dorothy L. Odell of Virginia, Sandra D. Nawonty, Patricia A. Bunnell and Douglas E. Smith of Massachusetts; and his close friends, Stewart Tharrington of Nebraska and Christopher Johnson of Oxford. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
