He was predeceased by: his parents, William Thomas Gregory and Jennie Pendergrass Gregory; his siblings, Becky G. Slootweg, James D. Gregory and John Thomas Gregory; and his grandson-in-law Jody Church.

He is survived by: his sons, James "Jim" Daniel Gregory (Debbie) and Paul Robert Gregory; his siblings, Esther "Susie" Justice, Martha G. Lumpkin, Rachel "Cindy" Cunningham and Samuel Gaius Gregory; his grandchildren, Michael Gregory (Kelly), Brian Gregory (Amber), Jamie Ann Gregory and Stacy Church; and his great grandchildren, Hannah Gregory of David Norwood, M. J, Dayton Church and Aria Gregory.
