William G. "Billy" Wortham Jr.

William "Billy" Wortham Jr., 63 of Henderson, NC, passed away Monday, October 25, 2021, at his home.

Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late William Graham Wortham Sr. and Melissa Ann Franklin Wortham.

Billy was a member of White Memorial United Methodist Church and loved working with his close friends at Sossamon Funeral Home. He was a loyal and cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. In his free time, Billy loved fishing, working in the garden, being a "Pop," or getting in his recliner to watch sports. Some of Billy's other passions included delegating tasks to friends and family, turning the home thermostat down to 65 degrees, reliving his glory days of high school football, and betting on underdogs during the college bowl season.

Surviving are his wife of thirty years, Nancy Gray Wortham; one daughter Amanda Van Buren (Russell); three sons, Nick Overcash (Rachel), Jeremy Overcash (Danielle), and Tommy Overcash; seven grandchildren, Connor Parnell, Carter Overcash, William Overcash, Jack Overcash, Drake Overcash, Lucas Graham Van Buren, and Leah Overcash; three sisters, Debbie Mattocks, Patricia Hintz, and Barbara Caton; a special aunt and uncle, Bud and Carolyn Wortham; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Alongside his parents, he was preceded in death by his nephew, Chris Lynch.

A memorial service will be held Monday, November 1, 2021, at 1:00 p.m., at Sossamon Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Frank Sossamon, and Pastor Dennis Jones.

The family will receive friends Monday, November 1, 2021, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and all other times at his home.
