He was predeceased by: his wife Emma Jean McGaha Gurkin; his daughter Belinda Jean Gurkin Owenby; and his grandson Keith Gurkin. He is survived by: his children, Kenneth Gurkin and Rebecca G. Strother; and his grandson Joseph K. Strother. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 10th 2026 at 3:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses (1350 5th Ave W, Hendersonville, NC 28739).
